Delhi Capitals (DC) are enduring a dismal Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign. Having lost their five games so far, the David Warner-led side is occupying the last spot on the 10-team points table.
If their on-field woes were not enough, the Capitals have now lost fast-bowling sensation Kamlesh Nagarkoti to a back injury. Nagarkoti was yet to play a game for DC this season, and now according to a PTI report, the right-arm pacer will miss the remainder of IPL 2023.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals have summoned the unsold duo of Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyam Garg for trials as the franchise is expected to sign a replacement for Nagarkoti in the coming days.
Nagarkoti has struggled with a back injury in the past as well. Despite being fetched by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the IPL 2018 auction, the 23-year-old has managed to play only 12 IPL matches so far.
The Rajasthan pacer hasn't been at his best lately. His numbers were far from impressive across domestic tournaments in the 2022-23 season with only seven wickets coming in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
DC have quite a few quality fast bowlers in their ranks and Nagarkoti failed to make it to the playing XI in their first five games.
The likes of Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar and Chetan Sakariya are featuring regularly in Delhi’s playing XI along with overseas pace recruits Anrich Nortje and Mustafizur Rahman. Ishant Sharma and Lungi Ngidi are also part of the franchise.
However, the bowlers have failed to perform as a unit and it reflects on DC’s standings in the points table. Nagarkoti’s absence might be a big blow as the franchise is now stuck with existing options.
