IPL 2023: “It’s an individual choice,” Murali Vijay irked by constant chatter around MS Dhoni’s retirement

Speculations are rife that Dhoni will call time on his professional cricketer after the IPL 2023 season.

MS Dhoni | BCCI-IPLSpeculations are rife that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni will bring down the curtains on his professional cricket career with the conclusion of IPL 2023.

While Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020, he continues to feature in the Indian Premier League.

At a recent event for the CSK, Dhoni was asked about his retirement plans and he said that there is still a lot of time to take that call and he didn’t want the coach to be put under pressure by something he says now.

Amid the constant chatter around Dhoni’s retirement, former India opener Murali Vijay has said that people shouldn't keep putting pressure on the CSK captain by asking the same question.

“It’s an individual choice. It’s high time people understand what a cricketer is going through. He’s served our country for about 15 years. So we should be giving him space to take that call, rather than putting pressure by asking when he’s going to retire. It’s very harsh for y'all to ask this question. Everybody is asking about MS’ retirement,” Vijay said while speaking to Sportskeeda.

"It is so sad for me to sit and answer it. I have retired recently, so I know how it feels. We have given our heart and soul to this game and it’s a personal choice, and I want to tell people to maintain that little bit of privacy,” he added.

Meanwhile, former CSK all-rounder Shane Watson recently said that he didn't believe Dhoni would hang up his boots after the current season and can continue playing for a few more years.

"I heard that this is the last IPL of MS Dhoni but I don't think. MS Dhoni can continue to play for the next three to four years. He is still very fit and batting and wicket-keeping really well. His leadership is something that is as good as his game. His fitness and mind-reading of the game make him a good leader. His skills on the ground are awesome. He is one of the main reasons that CSK is successful," Watson said.
