Sanju Samson played a key role in Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) three-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (April 16).
Chasing 178 to win, the Royals were tottering at 55/4 in the 11th over. Amid the pressure situation, Samson rose to the occasion, adding 59 runs for the fifth wicket with Shimron Hetmyer.
The RR skipper slammed 60 off 32 balls while Hetmyer took the team home with an unbeaten 56 off 26 deliveries.
When Samson was smashing the GT bowlers, chatter around his international status flooded social media. Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle also posted a tweet in support of the Rajasthan Royals captain.
“I would play Sanju Samson in the Indian T20 team every day,” Bhogle wrote.
As expected, a number of cricket fans endorsed the veteran broadcaster’s viewpoint.
Once touted as a prodigious batting talent, Sanju Samson made his India debut in 2015 at the age of 21. For the next five years, he was overlooked in the national side before he finally earned a call-up in 2020
However, Samson is yet to get a consistent run in the Indian team. As of today, he has represented India in 11 ODIs and 17 T20Is, amassing more than 600 runs with three half-centuries.
