Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut on Sunday (April 16) for Mumbai Indians (MI).
Arjun, the left-arm seamer, was given the new ball in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The 23-year-old joined MI in 2021 but this was the first time he got picked in the playing XI.
On his IPL debut, Arjun returned with the bowling figures of 0 for 17 in his two overs while he didn’t get a chance to bat.
After the game, Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter and shared a heartwarming post for his son.
“Arjun, today you have taken another important step in your journey as a cricketer. As your father, someone who loves you and is passionate about the game, I know you will continue to give the game the respect it deserves and the game will love you back. (1/2),” the batting legend wrote.
“You have worked very hard to reach here, and I am sure you will continue to do so. This is the start of a beautiful journey. All the best! (2/2),” he further added.
Coming to the match, MI defeated KKR by five wickets. It was their second successive victory in the ongoing IPL after suffering a couple of defeats at the start of the season.
Chasing 186 to win, Mumbai Indians batted exceptionally well to get over the line in 17.4 overs. While the duo of Rohit Sharma (20 off 13) and Ishan Kishan (58 off 25) added 65 runs for the opening wicket, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav (43 off 25), Tilak Varma (30 off 25) and Tim David (24* off 13) chipped in with vital contributions to seal the deal for MI.
