Mumbai Indians (MI) registered a brilliant convincing win at the Wankhede Stadium in their IPL 2023 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 16, 2023. With this win, MI is now on the 8th spot with 2 wins in 4 matches, while KKR remains at 5th spot with 2 wins in 5 matches.
Suryakumar Yadav captained MI in place of Rohit Sharma and won the toss, choosing to field first. MI gave debuts to Duan Jansen and Arjun Tendulkar.
KKR innings were story of Venkatesh Iyer’s brilliant 104 studded with 9 sixes and 6 fours as the next best score was 21* by Andre Russell. KKR posted 185/6 in 20 overs, with MI’s Hrithik Shokeen taking 2/34.
In reply, Rohit Sharma came out as an impact substitute and made 20 runs in 13 balls, while Ishan Kishan got his form back as MI posted 65 runs inside the first 5 overs itself. Kishan fell for 58 in 25 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes to his name.
MI found themselves in a bit of a trouble but Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma steadied the ship with a 60-run partnership. While Tilak fell for 30, Suryakumar Yadav seemed like his old self after enduring a horror run of form.
He made 43 in 25 balls hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes and all of his shots for maximums were his trademark shots.
In the end, Tim David made 24* in 13 balls to end the match in the 18th over itself as MI won the encounter by 5 wickets.
