Delhi Capitals (DC) are enduring a dismal Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign. Having lost their five games so far, the David Warner-led side is occupying the last spot on the 10-team points table.
DC’s latest defeat came against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday (April 15). The Capitals went down by 23 runs while chasing the target of 175.
After the game, Indian batting legend Virender Sehwag slammed the Delhi Capitals players for their abysmal showing in IPL 2023.
"To be honest with you, there's zero value of the staff that's present there. It doesn't matter how strong your team is, it's the players who are performing poorly out there. You can have as many great minds as you like in the dressing room, if your players aren't scoring runs or taking wickets, what they will do?" Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
"I will never understand that. You have to pick players who can win you matches, and you don't have to direct them everytime. When you have those players, you can become champions. Delhi do have those players, but they're not scoring runs or taking wickets. You can make strategies, in the end, those who enter the ground have to perform," he added.
DC's batting has let them down in all the games. While skipper Warner has scored runs consistently, his poor strike rate is a cause of concern for the franchise.
Delhi Capitals will next face Kolkata Knight Riders at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday (April 20).
