Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) batter Rinku Singh became the talk of the town ever since he hit those five sixes off five balls in the last over against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad to give his team a win out of an impossible situation.
He smacked five sixes in a row to close the game with 28 required off the last over, bowled by Yash Dayal of GT. The highest number of runs scored by any team in the last over while chasing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag believes that the feat was so immense that the southpaw batter from Uttar Pradesh won’t be able to repeat it.
“There is a belief in KKR team that Rinku Singh is still there. When MS Dhoni had started finishing off games, there was a belief that Dhoni is still there. In 90s, it was if Tendulkar is there match can be won, if not then no. Now the same thing is with KKR and Rinku Singh. Before it was Andre Russell for them.
This has never happened in the history of cricket and Rinku Singh will never be able to do this again. This record that has happened, it might be broke, but Rinku will never in his life be able to hit 6 sixes and break that record,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
Rinku actually hit 6 sixes and one four in the 7 balls he faced out of the last 8 deliveries.
“You also need a bit of luck. If it was Alzarri Joseph bowling even Rinku would have known that he wouldn’t be able to hit him. But he has faced Yash Dayal all his life in the nets. So Rinku had the right mindset,” Sehwag added.
In their fourth outing of the season, Rinku Singh scored an unbeaten half-century (58 off 31 deliveries) but KKR fell short by 23 runs as Sunrisers Hyderabad won a second consecutive game of the season.
