IPL 2023: “There's a lot of Indian fans, glad I shut them,” Harry Brook's bold remark after hitting maiden IPL ton

Brook slammed 100 off 55 balls in SRH's 23-run victory over KKR.

Harry Brook | BCCI-IPLHarry Brook starred with the bat in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) comprehensive 23-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 19 of the IPL 2023 season at the Eden Gardens on Friday (April 14).

Opening the innings, Brook slammed 100 off 55 balls, propelling his team to a mammoth 228/4 in 20 overs. His knock was studded with 12 fours and 3 sixes.

After the game, Brook expressed delight that his maiden IPL hundred will ‘shut’ many of the Indian fans who were targeting him on social media after his failure in SRH's first three matches.

Notably, the English batter failed to make a mark in first three outings, returning with scores of 13, 3 and 13.

"I was putting pressure on myself a little bit. You go on social media and people are calling you rubbish. There's a lot of Indian fans out there who'll say well done tonight. But they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad I could shut them up to be honest," Brook said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

While Harry Brook expectedly rated his four Test centuries over an IPL ton, he was pleased to achieve the milestone with his girlfriend in the stands.

"My four Test hundreds will have to be over this one," he said.

"It was a special night. Thankfully, we got over the line as well. Got a little tense in the middle. A lot of people say that opening the batting in T20 is the best time to bat. I am happy to bat anywhere. I've had a lot of success batting at five. Made my name there. The crowd was phenomenal tonight. I enjoyed it," Brook added.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will next face Mumbai Indians at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday (April 18).
