Gujarat Titans (GT) registered a nail-biting seven-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 18 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Thursday (April 13).
Opting to bowl first, the defending champions restricted the hosts to a modest 153/8 in 20 overs. Mohit Sharma starred with the ball, returning with the figures of 2 for 18 in his four overs.
The likes of Rashid Khan (1-26), Joshua Little (1-31), Alzarri Joseph (1-32), and Mohammad Shami (1-44) chipped in with wicket apiece.
It was an underwhelming batting display from PBKS as no one managed to hit a half-century. Matthew Short top scored with 36 off 24 balls.
In reply, the Titans overhauled the target with one delivery to spare. Opener Shubman Gill laid the foundation of the successful chase with a brilliant knock of 49-ball 67 but he failed to finish the job.
With 7 need off the last over, Gill got out to Sam Curran on the second delivery and it took David Miller (17*) and Rahul Tewatia (5*) to take GT over the finishing line.
For his match-winning knock, Shubman Gill received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
