Suryakumar Yadav’s rotten luck of form continued this year as he was dismissed for a golden duck in Mumbai Indians’ (MI) first win in the IPL 2023 which came against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi on April 11.
The ICC T20I cricketer of the year in 2022, Suryakumar Yadav reached all heights in international cricket – two T20I centuries and the leading run-getters in the format. He started 2023 with a century, his third in T20Is, but all of a sudden, nothing seems to be going right for Surya.
As MI was chasing the 173 runs target set by DC, Suryakumar Yadav came in at a crucial moment after the fall of Tilak Varma’s wicket and faced Mukesh Kumar. He got a delivery on the leg side and he played his trademark flick off the hips, but the ball went straight into the hands of Kuldeep Yadav at fine leg.
This was Suryakumar’s fourth golden duck counting the three he got in the ODI series against Australia which was played before the IPL 2023.
Many thought that Surya’s poor form will end when he returns to the format he loves the most in the IPL, but with scores of 15 and 1 against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings and now a duck against DC, nothing seems to be going right for the batter.
IPL aside, it is no secret that Suryakumar is yet to crack the ODI code, but despite his frailties, Surya was backed by none other than Ricky Ponting to book a place in India's World Cup squad.
Therefore, after the match between DC and MI ended, Ponting was seen having a animated talk with the MI batter.
Here is the same:
Suryakumar will get a chance to get his form back when MI host KKR on April 16 at the Wankhede Stadium.
