IPL 2023: WATCH- “From 42 to 50, took 10 balls”- Simon Doull slams Virat Kohli for playing for personal milestone

Kohli made 61 runs as RCB posted 212/4 against LSG batting first.

Virat Kohli scored 61 in 44 balls for RCB against LSG | BCCI-IPLRoyal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli came in for some sharp criticism from former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull on commentary during his side’s IPL 2023 match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 10, 2023.

RCB hosted LSG at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium and were asked to bat first by opposition captain KL Rahul who won the toss.

It was a carnage with the bat from Virat Kohli, who took full advantage of powerplay and scored 61 in 44 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes to his name. He also added 96 runs with captain Faf du Plessis in 11.3 overs.

However, Simon Doull, who is commentating in the match, was critical of Kohli, saying that batters can’t afford to play for “personal milestone.”

IPL 2023: Virat Kohli whips Mark Wood nonchalantly for a six; Faf du Plessis smashes 115-meter six vs Ravi Bishnoi

"Virat Kohli started off like a train. He was going hammer and tongs and playing lots of shots. From 42 to 50, he took 10 balls. He's concerned about his milestone. There is absolutely no room for personal milestones in this game anymore.Doull said during the commentary on Star Sports.

This is not the first time Doull has lashed out at a star batter in a T20 league as Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam was his target during the PSL 2023. Babar had scored a hundred against the Quetta Gladiators

“Rather than putting the team first... the last little while, that's all that been happening. Rather than looking for boundaries, there is still so much firepower to come. Hundreds are brilliant, stats are great, but it has to be team first,” Doull had said then.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has been in very good form for RCB in IPL 2023, as he has scored 82* in the opening match against Mumbai Indians and then 21 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
