IPL 2023: WATCH – “In IPL this is second or third,” Umran Malik on breaking the bails during SRH vs PBKS clash

Umran bowled with express pace and returned with the impressive figures of 2 for 32 in four overs.

Umran Malik and Rahul Tripathi | BCCI-IPLUmran Malik and Rahul Tripathi played a key role in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday (April 9).

Just like the last IPL season, Umran bowled with express pace and returned with the impressive figures of 2 for 32 in four overs. Sikandar Raza and Harpreet Brar were his victims.

Besides Umran, Mayank Markande (4-15) and Marco Jansen (2-16) bowled stunning spells as SRH restricted PBKS to a modest 143/9 in 20 overs.

Chasing the target, the hosts rode on Rahul Tripathi’s unbeaten 74 off 48 balls to get over the finishing line with 17 deliveries to spare.

After the game, Umran Malik and Rahul Tripathi interacted with each other for the official website of IPL.

During the conversation, Umran asked Tripathi how he managed to chase the score even though he was struggling initially.

“Yes, in the start, I took time but after playing some balls and understanding how the pitch is playing, I got some boundaries and did a good chase,” Rahul Tripathi said.

In the video, Tripathi gifted the broken bails to Umran which the speedster shattered while cleaning up Harpreet Brar during the 12th over.

When Tripathi asked if he had ever broken the bails with the tennis balls, Umran replied: “Probably, I have broken stumps with tennis balls once but in IPL this is second or third. I had broken one or two bails in last IPL. It also happened when i was playing for India.”

On being asked if he is happy with his bowling so far, Umran Malik said, “Yes, I am happy, i am bowling at the right areas and I will try to bowl slowers and yorkers in death overs. The boundery was shorter at one side where I thought will lose runs, but captain asked me to bowl in that area so I bowled there. But that created chances of getting wickets. We will continue to work on our plans and give better performance.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad will next face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on April 14.
