IPL 2023: “Hope you were happy with my strike rate,” Dhawan takes hilarious dig at Harsha Bhogle over critical tweet

Shikhar Dhawan waged a lone battle and scored 99* off 66 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Shikhar Dhawan and Harsha Bhogle | BCCI-IPLPunjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan has been in exceptional form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

The veteran opener has aggregated 225 runs from three innings so far, including a couple of half-centuries. However, some fans and experts, including renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle, were critical of Dhawan’s strike rate after his knock of 86 not out in 56 balls against Rajasthan Royal on April 5.

In the third match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 9, the southpaw waged a lone battle, scoring 99* off 66 balls to take PBKS to a respectable 143/9 in 20 overs.

Despite being on the losing side, Dhawan was adjudged Player-of-the-Match as he scored nearly 70 percent of his team’s runs.

Speaking to Harsha Bhogle at the post-match presentation ceremony, Dhawan reminded the former of his tweet which was critical of his strike rate after Punjab Kings’ second game.

"I didn't expect that I'd reach there at the end of the game but I was playing according to the situation, still keeping positive and I hope you were happy with my strike rate as you tweeted something," the left-hander said after bagging the Player-of-the-Match award.

"Very happy with your strike rate, but that was a different game and different situation. I am glad that we are having this conversation," Harsha replied as the two had a bit of fun banter.

Harsha Bhogle also posted a couple of tweets with regard to his conversation with Shikhar Dhawan at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Punjab Kings will next face Gujarat Titans in Mohali on Thursday (April 13).
