Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson failed to make a mark with the bat in his team’s thumping 57-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday (April 8).

Batting at No. 3, Samson got out for 0 from 4 deliveries while trying to smash DC spinner Kuldeep Yadav into the stands during the 11th over.

After the game, Samson brushed down his rare failure, saying he is quite clear about his plans with the bat in a power-packed batting unit.

"The way I play the format, I do take a few balls to settle in, but mainly it is just to go out and express myself and get those 40-50 runs at a high strike rate, with Jos doing the other role of taking the innings deep. The roles are very clear. If we do those roles, it is very normal to get few dismissals like this but I'll try to keep going," Samson said at the post-match presentation.

Riding on half-centuries from Jos Buttler (79 off 51) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (60 off 31), RR piled up a mammoth 199/4 on the board. Shimron Hetmyer also played a stunning cameo of 39 not out in 21 balls.

In reply, the Capitals managed only 142/9 in their allotted 20 overs. It was a listless performance as most of the DC batters fell for a single-digit score. Although skipper David Warner slammed a half-century (65 off 55 balls), his innings lacked intent while no other managed to touch the 40-run mark.

While left-arm spinner Trent Boult (3-29) returned with three wickets, the spin duo of R Ashwin (2-25) and Yuzvendra Chahal (3-27) shared five scalps between them

Samson heaped praise on his two spinners. "He (Ashwin) reads the batters very well. He is always looking at the batters and getting the hints. They had a lot of left-handers and bowling Ash bhai a few overs were crucial."

Rajasthan Royals will take on Chennai Super Kings in their next match at Chepauk on Wednesday (April 12).
