IPL 2023: “If you can’t do that, do not come and play in IPL,” Sehwag slams Warner for his 55-ball 65 against RR

Warner never posed any threat to the opposition with his knock.

David Warner | BCCI-IPLFormer India opener Virender Sehwag has slammed Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper David Warner for his timid innings against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati on Saturday (April 8).

Chasing 200 to win, the Capitals managed only 142/9 in their allotted 20 overs. While Warner waged a lone battle with 65 off 55 balls, the southpaw never posed any threat as DC succumbed to their third successive defeat in the ongoing IPL season.

"David, if you are listening, please play well. Score 50 in 25 balls. Learn from Jaiswal, he hit in 25 balls. If you cannot do that, do not come and play in the IPL," said Sehwag while speaking on Cricbuzz after the match.

"It would have been better for the team if David Warner got out for 30 runs, rather than making 55-60. Players like Rovman Powell and Ishan Porel could have come out much earlier and maybe could have done anything. No balls were left for those players, and they are big hitters in team," he added.

Ex-India cricketer Rohan Gavaskar, who was also part of the same panel, opined that if Warner was not a senior international player, his IPL 2023 campaign would have ended after this knock.

"David Warner would have been retired hurt by Delhi Capitals if he was not their captain. If this was a young Indian player, his tournament would have been finished," Rohan said.

Delhi Capitals will take on Mumbai Indians in their next match at Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 11.
