IPL 2023: WATCH – R Ashwin almost runs out Shikhar Dhawan at non-striker’s end during RR-PBKS clash

The incident happened in the seventh over of Punjab Kings' innings.

Ashwin stopped midway through his action to run out Dhawan | TwitterFans witnessed a spicy moment during the 8th match of the IPL 2023 between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Guwahati on Wednesday (April 5), involving R Ashwin and Shikhar Dhawan.

During the seventh over of PBKS’ innings, Ashwin stopped mid-way through his run-up upon realising that Dhawan appeared to be leaving his crease early.

However, the off-spinner didn’t dislodge the bails on this occasion and simply stared at the batter to probably serve him first warning. On the other hand, when Dhawan realised that Ashwin had seen him moving out of his crease, the southpaw backed up.

Here’s the video:

Notably, Ashwin's act of running out Rajasthan Royals' (RR) Jos Buttler for backing up too far as captain of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in IPL 2019 had triggered a massive uproar and polarised opinions.

While many had supported him as run-out at the non-striker’s end is within the laws of the game, some cited the spirit of the game to crucify his antics.
