IPL 2023: ‘Hard to believe Sanju Samson doesn’t play more for India’- Eoin Morgan

Sanju Samson made 55 runs in RR's 72-run win over SRH in their IPL 16 opener | IPL TwitterFormer England captain Eoin Morgan said that he is surprised to see that Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson doesn’t play more international cricket for India and praised him for his batting skills after RR’s IPL 2023 opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 2nd.

Samson scored 55 runs off 32 balls with three fours and four sixes. The RR skipper was one of the three batters, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, to score fifties. This helped RR post 203/5 in 20 overs.

In reply, Yuzvendra Chahal’s 4/17 and two wickets in the first over itself from Trent Boult restricted SRH to 131/8 and gave Rajasthan a 72-run win in their first match of the season.

It’s hard to believe that he does not play more international cricket when he plays with ease and as well as this. The time he has and the power that he generates from shots of the backfoot like that are incredible,” Morgan was quoted as saying in Jio Cinema.

Furthermore, Morgan was particularly praiseful of the way Samson went after leggie Adil Rashid, who was hit for two sixes, one through deep mid-wicket and the other through long off in the 11th and 16th over respectively.

They are not many people that play shots like that to Adil Rashid like that throughout the world. He is a difficult bowler to pick, let alone play and attack. What a way to start the tournament, Sanju Samson. Getting out of the blocks earlier, scoring runs early in the tournament, we have seen this before, can he maintain that? Only time will tell,” he added.

Royals will next face Shikhar Dhawan’s Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday, April 5 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
