Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) thumped arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) in their IPL 2023 tournament opener at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 2 by 8 wickets. It was a stellar show by the RCB who played their first home game since 2019.
MI was asked to bat first after RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss. However, RCB bowlers kept striking at regular intervals and only Tilak Varma’s 84* with 9 fours and 4 sixes was the standout knock as MI managed 171/7.
In reply, Du Plessis and Virat Kohli added 148 runs for the first wicket in under 15 overs with Du Plessis being dismissed for 73 in 43 balls with 6 sixes and 5 fours, while Kohli stayed unbeaten till the end on 82 in 49 balls with 5 sixes and 6 fours, as RCB won in 16.2 overs with 8 wickets in hand.
The captain took charge of the team celebrations as well after the game and recited the team song for the season. Royal Challengers Bangalore posted snippets from the dressing room after the match, where the South African player can be seen rallying his team in the dressing room after the match.
He can be seen helping David Willey learn the team song and the tune and later Virat Kohli and Faf lead the team in singing the team song to enjoy a wonderful win.
