IPL 2023: Cricket fraternity in awe as Kohli, Du Plessis fire to script RCB’s massive win over MI

RCB chased down MI's total of 171 in 16.2 overs.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis added 148 runs for the opening wicket | BCCI-IPLRoyals Challengers Bangalore (RCB) opened their IPL 2023 campaign with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday (April 2).

Asked to bat first, the visitors rode on Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 84 off 46 balls to post 171/7 on the board.

It was a collective bowling effort from RCB as all the bowlers chipped in with at least one wicket. Karn Sharma (2-32), Mohammed Siraj (1-21), Reece Topley (1-14), Akash Deep (1-29), Michael Bracewell (1-16) and Harshal Patel (1-43) shared the wickets among them.

In reply, RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis made the mockery of MI’s bowling attack, adding 148 runs for the first to put the hosts on the brink of victory.

While the RCB captain was dismissed for 74 off 43 balls in the 15th over, Kohli held the one firmly and stayed unbeaten on 82 off 49 balls to take his team over the finishing line in just 16.2 overs.

For their dazzling batting display, the duo of Kohli and Du Plessis garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
