IPL 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts as Mark Wood’s five-wicket haul powers LSG to 50-run win over DC

Mark Wood wreaked havoc on the DC batting line-up | BCCI-IPLLucknow Supper Giants (LSG) opened their IPL 2023 campaign with an emphatic 50-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday (April 1).

Invited to bat first, LSG rode on opener Kyle Mayers’ whirlwind 73 off 38 balls to pile up 193/6 on the board. Nicholas Pooran also played a handy cameo of 36 in 21 balls during death overs.

Khaleel Ahmed was the stand-out bowler for DC, claiming a couple of wickets by conceding 30 runs in his four overs.

In reply, the Capitals managed only 143/9 in their stipulated 20 overs. It was a listless batting performance as no DC batter returned with a decent knock.

Although skipper David Warner slammed a half-century (56 off 48 balls), his innings lacked intent while no other managed to cross the 30-run mark.

For the Super Giants, speedster Mark Wood starred with the ball as he ran through DC’s top-order and also cleaned up the tail to finish with the figures of 5 for 14 in four overs. Prithvi Marsh (12), Mitchell Marsh (0), Sarfaraz Khan (4), Akshar Patel (16), and Chetan Sakariya (4) were his victims.

Avesh Khan (2-29) and Ravi Bishnoi (2-31) also bowled impressive spells and shared four scalps between them.

For his stunning spell, Mark Wood received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
