IPL 2023: “It can be quite confusing, maybe stressful,” Warner, Rahul share views on ‘Impact Player’ rule

The ‘Impact Player’ rule enables teams to replace any one member of their playing XI during a match.

David Warner and KL Rahul | BCCI-IPLThe ‘Impact Player’ rule has made headlines in the lead-up to the IPL 2023 season and Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper David Warner finds it confusing and stressful at times.

According to the rule, each team can nominate as many as 5 substitute players along with their playing XI after the toss. One of them can replace a member from the original XI during the match and the player will be called Impact Player.

However, teams can’t replace a player with a foreign recruit if they have already picked 4 overseas cricketers in the XI.

Speaking at the toss during their match against Lucknow Super Giants, Warner shared his views on the newly introduced rule.

"It can be quite confusing, maybe stressful at times (impact player). But it's a welcome addition to the tournament. Either it's a batter more or bowler more," Warner said at the toss.

On the other hand, Warner’s LSG counterpart KL Rahul seems to be a fan of the Impact Player rule as the latter feels it would give teams a chance to remain in the contest or make a comeback.

"It's new (impact player). Still getting used to it. It gives teams a chance to be in the game or come back in the game. It's fun. Hopefully it's a good change," said Rahul at the toss.
