IPL 2023: “Batters can do anything…,” Ishant Sharma explains why it is difficult for bowlers to execute yorkers nowadays

Ishant will feature in the upcoming IPL as one of the most senior players.

Ishant Sharma | DC/TwitterAhead of the IPL 2023 season, Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Ishant Sharma highlighted the difficulties of bowling yorkers in the modern T20 game.

The lanky fast bowler, who has been sidelined from the Indian team, will feature in the upcoming IPL as one of the most senior players.

Notably, Ishant was part of the inaugural IPL edition way back in 2008 and has seen the crazy enrichment in batters’ skill level over the years.

"I think it’s really difficult for bowlers to be honest, because batters can do anything right now. We have such good bats, good wickets, small boundaries, ball flying everywhere," Sharma said in an interview with Betway.

Ishant then explained why it was easier to bowl a yorker in conditions like Australia.

"I think the World Cup in Australia will be good for cricket because there are big square boundaries. If you want to hit a six, it’s not quite as easy. It will give the bowling unit a little bit more of a margin," he further added.

The 34-year-old still feels all hopes are not lost for the pacers in T20s and they need to back themselves and have impeccable execution to succeed in the shortest format.

"But at the same time you have to be perfect with your execution and back yourself irrespective of the situation, whatever score is on the board. I think if you back yourself you can be successful in this format," he remarked.

While the IPL 2023 season is slated to get underway on March 31, Delhi Capitals will open their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on April 1.
