IPL 2023: It's official, Steve Smith joins commentary panel for IPL 16

Veteran Australian cricketer Steve Smith is all set to make his debut as commentator in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

A day after Smith announced joining an ‘exceptional team’ in India, Star Sports, the official television broadcasters of the IPL 2023, confirmed that the star Australian cricketer has joined the expert panel of Star Sports for the cash-rich T20 league.

On Monday, March 27, the right-hander shared a video on Twitter, where he can be heard saying: “Namaste India. I have got some exciting news for you. I am joining IPL 2023. I am joining an exceptional and passionate team in India.”

It had created a lot of buzz on social media. Star Sports on Tuesday officially confirmed that Smith will join the IPL 2023 as an expert and share invaluable insights and expertise.

Smith was quoted as saying in a media release by Star Sports: “I think I read the game pretty well so hopefully there will be some good insights for all the people watching IPL out there. I’m certainly excited about joining the Star Sports Team and I’m looking forward to this new experience.”

Smith was last seen in the IPL with Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2021, in which he scored 152 runs in 8 games. The Australian star has so far amassed 2485 runs in 103 IPL games at a strike rate of 128.09, including 11 half-centuries and one hundred.
