Indian leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi revealed how he missed his 12th standard exam to be part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) net bowlers during the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2018.

The 22-year-old also recalled how it was tough for him to convince his father, who is a government teacher by profession, to give up his studies for cricket. He also revealed how an incident in the 2020 U-19 World Cup final changed him, as he never slammed anyone after that.

As reported by the Indian Express, Ravi Bishnoi said on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) podcast: “I missed Class 12th boards as I was a net bowler with Rajasthan Royals. My father was called me and sternly asked me to come back but the coach told me that I will have to be here. Then I decided to skip the boards that year but finished it next year.”

He added, “At the age of 10, I joined a cricket academy and when I turned 15, I decided to give up on my studies. I was not getting time from cricket. It was difficult to convince the parents. My coaches then told my father to let me continue with cricket because of my talent.”

Speaking about the altercation with the Bangladesh cricketers during the U-19 World Cup, Bishnoi said: “In the U-19 WC final, they were sledging our batters a lot, and they did cross the line, and when our turn came, we returned the flavor. After the win, they crossed the line.”

He signed off by saying, “They started mocking us on our faces, and in the heat of the moment, I also said few things that I am not very proud of. After that final, I have never sledged anyone. My only concern was whether I would be able to play in the IPL or not.”
