Rajasthan Royals (RR) have signed pacer Sandeep Sharma as a replacement for injured fast bowler Prasidh Krishna who will miss the upcoming IPL 2023 due to a back injury. After representing Punjab Kings the previous season, Sandeep went unsold at the IPL 2023 mini-auction in December.
However, multiple franchises like Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals were reportedly interested in signing him as a replacement for the upcoming season for the injured Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna.
Recently, Sandeep Sharma was seen at the RR training camp in Jaipur ahead of IPL 2023.
Krishna, who was one of the important cogs in RR's wheels in the run to the final in 2022 has been out since the Zimbabwe series last year. Krishna then suffered a stress fracture during his rehab at the NCA and was ruled out for a few more months including the IPL due to a stress fracture to his back.
On the other hand, his replacement Sandeep Sharma is a veteran of 104 IPL games, where he has picked up 114 wickets at an average of 26.33, with 4/20 as his best figures. He has enjoyed fair success with Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad franchises over the years.
RR will open their IPL 2023 tournament against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 2nd in Hyderabad in a day game.
