Ahead of the 2023 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Glenn Maxwell has said that while he has recovered from the leg injury, it'll take a "number of months" for him to regain full fitness.
Maxwell had suffered a broken left fibula in a horrific mishap during a friend's birthday party days after Australia were eliminated from the T20 World Cup last November.
The injury required urgent surgery and an extended rehabilitation period. Maxwell made his return to international cricket during the recently-concluded ODI series against India, which Australia won 2-1, and he is now looking forward to playing for RCB.
"The leg's okay. It's going to be a number of months before I'm 100 per cent," Maxwell said in a video posted by RCB on social media.
"Hopefully it's (leg) good enough to get through the tournament and still do the job," he added.
With the COVID-19 pandemic now on decline, the IPL will go back to the home-and-away format from this season. RCB will play their first home match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 2 against Mumbai Indians.
"Finally getting back after a couple of years (of playing inside bio-bubbles). It's pretty exciting and I'm pretty pumped to play in front of our home fans," added Maxwell.
Glenn Maxwell was roped in by RCB at the IPL auction in 2021 and he instantly made an impact, amassing more than 500 runs in the season.
In IPL 2022, Maxwell played a key role in RCB's play-offs entry, scoring 301 runs from 13 matches at a strike rate of 169.
