Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja expressed his shock at the news of Shreyas Iyer being advised the option of surgery on his back, as the Indian batter is all set to miss part or even the whole of IPL 2023 season due to his recurring lower back issue.
According to the reports, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) suggested surgery to Iyer on his back, but the right-hander decided to take rest and undergo rehab before taking a final call on the same, as the surgery would rule him out of action for at least 3-6 months.
While Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are yet to announce their skipper as a replacement for Iyer as they are monitoring his progress, Jadeja was shocked that batters nowadays have developed back issues and revealed the reason behind the same.
Ajay Jadeja was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz: “For three months? This is also something new I am hearing. Injuries happen all the time but back surgery for a batter? This is something I have never heard before. Even batsmen are having back surgeries?”
He added, “Yeh toh khel se ird gird ko cheezein judi huyi hai uspe thoda dhyaan dena padega. Yeh jo loha utha raha hai, faeda toh ho raha hai uska (This is all because of the things happening in and around the game. Weightlifting has its advantages), but we get to see the other side as well. Hope he gets well.”
