Anyone can score in Chinnaswamy: Gambhir slams AB de Villiers’ IPL record; fans remind him of own record at RCB’s home ground

Gautam Gambhir refused to rate AB de Villiers as one of the best batters of the IPL.

AB de Villiers | BCCI/IPLSouth African legend AB de Villiers is widely regarded as one of the greatest overseas players to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

De Villiers began his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the inaugural edition in 2008. After spending three seasons with the Delhi-based franchise, the Proteas batting maverick joined Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2011 and remained part of the side until his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2021.

His association with RCB became an iconic one over the years. He played 157 matches for the Bangalore-based franchise, amassing 4522 runs at an outstanding strike rate of 158.33 with two centuries and 37 fifties.

Despite his astonishing record, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir refused to rate AB de Villiers as one of the best in the league.

Gambhir, who has led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles, made a bizarre claim that anyone can score runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is the home ground of RCB.

"AB de Villiers only had personal records in the IPL. Anybody could have scored runs in Chinnaswamy Stadium," said Gambhir on Star Sports.

Gambhir's comment left the fans astounded as they took to Twitter to roast him. Many reminded the former opener of his own record at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which was quite underwhelming.
