IPL 2023: Sunrisers Hyderabad announce Aiden Markram as new skipper for upcoming IPL season

Markram was roped in by SRH during the IPL 2022 mega auction for a sum of INR 2.60 crore.

Aiden Markram | BCCI/IPLSunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has named South African batter Aiden Markram as their new captain for the 2023 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).

The franchise confirmed the development through a tweet on Thursday (February 23).

“THE. WAIT. IS. OVER. #OrangeArmy, say hello to our new captain Aiden Markram," wrote SRH on the micro-blogging site.

Markram was roped in by SRH during the IPL 2022 mega auction for a sum of INR 2.60 crore. He had a prolific maiden season, scoring 381 from 12 innings at an average of 47.63 and a strike rate of 139.05 with three half-centuries.

Recently, Markram achieved tremendous success with the SRH's sister franchise, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and led them to the inaugural SA 20 title.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will open their IPL 2023 campaign against Rajasthan Royals on April 2 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
