Harry Brook was already tipped to be a hot property at the IPL 2023 auction, and it turned out to be true as the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) broke their bank to sign England’s star batter for the next season.
Brook was the first millionaire at the IPL 2023 auction after SRH secured his services for a whopping INR 13.25 crore on Friday, December 23.
He never played in the IPL before, and even now he doesn’t have a great record in T20Is for England, but despite this, franchises were involved in a intense bidding war for the right-hander at the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi on Friday.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) opened the bidding for Brook at INR 1.5 crore, and then RCB were quick to join in, but they bailed out at INR 4.8 crore, and eventually SRH signed him for INR 13.25 crore after an intense bidding war with RR.
Reacting to his maiden IPL contract, Brook revealed that his grandmother started crying after learning that the batter became a millionaire due to the SRH deal. The England batter said that he was out for breakfast with his family when he learned that the SRH signed him for the IPL 2023 at such a big price, and his grandmother started crying on the breakfast table.
Harry Brook said in a video shared by Jio Cinema on Twitter: “I don't really know how to react to it, I'm pretty much at a loss for words. I was out for breakfast with my family and my grandma started crying. Thank you very much Sunrisers.”
Brook is also excited to turn up for the SRH in the IPL 16. He said in a SRH video on Twitter: “Hi Orange Army, I am really excited and grateful for this opportunity of coming to the IPL this year. I am really looking forward to playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. I’ve heard that the atmosphere is unbelievable, one of the best grounds in the competition. I am really excited.”
