IPL 2023: SRH signs Mayank Agarwal after bidding war with CSK; Joe Root goes unsold; CSK pick Ajinkya Rahane

Mayank Agarwal will play for SRH in IPL 2023 | TwitterThe IPL 2023 auction got underway in Kochi with 405 players undergoing the hammer for a chance to be part of the world’s richest and most popular T20 league.

Out of the shortlisted players, 273 are Indians and 132 are overseas players of which 4 players are from associate nations. The total number of capped players are 119, uncapped players are 282, and 4 are from associate nations.

After Harry Brook broke the bank with SRH getting him for INR 13.25 crs, it was time for Mayank Agarwal.

Agarwal, who was released by PBKS, entered the IPL 2023 auction with a base price of INR 1 cr and saw a bidding war going for him with RCB and CSK starting off and then PBKS joining in. But the ante was upped when SRH came into the fray and the bids got very serious and expensive.

In the end, after a fierce battle, SRH outbid CSK with the final bid of INR 8.25 crs to get Mayank Agarwal.

Next in was Joe Root, who failed to find a buyer for himself and so did South Africa’s Rilee Russouw, who went unsold.

Former India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane was picked up by Chennai Super Kings for his base price of INR 50 lakhs.
