Hugh Edmeades is all set to return as the auctioneer in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 mini-auction, which is set to be held in Kochi on December 23.
Edmeades made headlines last year after he collapsed due to postural hypotension in the ballroom of the ITC Gardenia hotel on the first day of the IPL 2022 mega-auction in Bengaluru.
Later, Charu Sharma completed the auction and was expected to get the role in the upcoming IPL 2023 mini-auction, given his good work last year, despite being called at the last minute.
However, the BCCI had first approached Edmeades for conducting auctions, but there were some doubts over the auctioneer’s return due to his health issues.
But now Edmeades has confirmed that he will be conducting the IPL 2023 auction and will reach Kochi on December 21 via Dubai.
Hugh Edmeades told Sportstar: “I am thrilled to have been asked by the BCCI to conduct the 2023 IPL auction and am excited about visiting Kochi for the first time.”
Notably, Edmeades is an independent fine art, classic car, and charity auctioneer. He was associated with the iconic Christie’s for 38 years before going independent in 2016.
His first stint as an auctioneer in the IPL auction was in December 2018, and it was a completely different experience for Edmeades, despite coming into the event after conducting more than 2,500 auctions across the globe by then.
