The IPL 2023 auction is scheduled to take place on December 23 in Kochi, however, this date has left most of the franchises in a bind as the date is very close to the Christmas festival and they fear that most of their foreign support staff will be on holidays and might not make it for the auction.

Hence it has been reported that the franchises have decided that they will request the BCCI to reschedule the event so that they can have the attendance of their key personnel. It is still unclear which way the board will move on the request.

The mega auction, in February, was held over two days but the IPL mini-auction will be a one-day event. Most teams already have their core squads in place and would like to fine-tune ahead of the new edition of the Indian Premier League.

All ten franchises submitted their list of retained players on 15 November. A total of 163 players were retained and 85 were released.

This mini-auction will see the likes of Sam Curran, Ben Stokes, and Cameron Green in the mix, and they are expected to rake up huge bids by franchises, owing to their all-around skills. Apart from this, Adil Rashid and Joe Root are also in the fray for a chance to play in the IPL 2023.

For the mini-auction, the teams will have last year’s leftover purse value, this year’s retention/release money, and an additional ₹5 crore to spend.
