Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Director of Cricket Operations, Mike Hesson, admitted that the franchise was in doubt over retaining the now-injured Glenn Maxwell for the upcoming IPL 2023.

Notably, Maxwell was ruled out of action for at least 3 months after he suffered a freak injury last week, which cast doubts on his participation in the upcoming IPL 2023. Maxwell broke his leg while running in his backyard during a birthday party and has been ruled out of commission for some time.

However, Hesson revealed that the star Australian all-rounder will be fit and ready to play in the tournament next year.

Mike Hesson said in a video shared by RCB on Twitter: “There is a little concern with Glenn Maxwell, heading to the retention phase with a broken leg. We wish him a speedy recovery. We have information that he will be back well before the IPL 2023 and playing cricket. Having that three dimensional player in our squad is pretty critical in terms of balancing that squad out.”

Speaking about RCB’s top-order comprising the captain Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Finn Allen, and Rajat Patidar, the mentor said: “We are pretty comfortable with our top-order with Faf, Virat and Finn Allen and Rajat Patidar. We see a really strong top-order which we can maneuver around.”

Hesson said that Dinesh Karthik was brilliant for the RCB last season as a finisher and even had great outings for India, which promoted them to retain the veteran cricketer for the IPL 2023.

He signed off by saying, “DK, he was terrific for us last year in the finishing role and then obviously playing for India, forcing his case so well. We are really looking forward to having him. The finishing guy with the experience he brings is really valuable.”
