IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians appoint Mark Boucher as new head coach

Boucher replaces Jayawardena as head coach of the 5-time champions.

Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday, September 16, announced that former South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Mark Boucher will be their new head coach, taking over from Mahela Jayawardena in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Boucher has been the head coach of South Africa since 2019, and will quit his term at the end of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Under his coaching, South Africa have so far won 11 Tests, 12 ODIs and 23 T20Is.

He has previously been a wicket-keeping coach with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2016, and also played for them before that as well as for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Boucher holds the record for the most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in Tests (555) and international cricket (998). He was also a fine batter in his own right, scoring 5515, 4686 and 268 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively.
