Punjab Kings rubbish reports regarding Mayank Agarwal’s sacking as captain

Rumours had been rife about Mayank's captaincy in the Indian media since a couple of days.

Mayank Agarwal | BCCI/IPLIndian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday (August 24) dismissed the rumours regarding their captain Mayank Agarwal’s sacking.

Rumours had been rife about Mayank's captaincy in the Indian media since a couple of days. As per the reports, the franchise was also in touch with Trevor Bayliss and Eoin Morgan over a coaching role.

However, Punjab Kings rubbished the reports through their social media channels.

“News reports published by a certain sports News website pertaining to the captaincy of the Punjab Kings franchise has been making the rounds in the last few days. We would like to state that no official of the team has issued any statement on the same,” PBKS tweeted.

Under Mayank Agarwal’s captaincy, Punjab Kings endured a dismal IPL 2022 campaign. They finished the league stage in the sixth position, having won just 7 out of their 14 matches.

Mayank also had a terrible time with the bat in the last IPL edition, amassing only 196 runs from 12 innings at an abysmal average of 16.33. He was also dropped in the batting line-up in the later half of the season.

Agarwal was appointed skipper after the departure of KL Rahul to Lucknow Super Giants.
