Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Riyan Parag opened up about the mix-up with R Ashwin during Qualifier 1 of the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He said that the senior player later came to him and apologized for the run-out.

During the last ball of the first innings of Qualifier 1 of the IPL 15 in Kolkata, the incident took place. Batting against, Yash Dayal, Ashwin missed the wide ball, and Parag, who was at the non-striker’s end, wanted to take a bye.

But Ashwin refused the single and both the batters were left stranded at one end, leading to Parag being run out. The off-spinner even gestured at his partner as to why he was coming across for a single.

Parag’s disappointment and anger were quite evident on his face as he left the field in agony. This paved way for many speculations that there happened a controversy between the duo.

But the young batter has now declined all the speculations and said that matter with his senior teammate settled with their conversation and there was absolutely no need to create a "controversy" out of it.

Speaking during a 'Rooter Stream', Riyan Parag said that he expected Ashwin to run and allow him to hit the last ball.

"Ashwin bhai was batting on the last ball and usually if there is a tailender at the other end, it makes sense for him to retain the strike. But with me there, I expected him to run for the available bye and allow me to hit the last ball," Riyan Parag said.

Parag said that Ashwin’s decision to not run left him shocked and he disappointed. He revealed that the off-spinner later came to him and said ‘sorry’ for running him out as he was lost in the moment.

"But he didn't run, which left me shocked. In that moment, I looked at him in disappointment and quietly left the field. Afterward, he himself came up to me and said 'sorry' for the run-out, stating that he was lost in the moment thinking of something else and didn't realize he should've gone ahead with the run,” he said.
