Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had their worst-ever IPL season in this edition of the league, winning only 4 out of 14 matches and ending their campaign at the penultimate position, just above the Mumbai Indians.

Everything went wrong for the four-time champions in IPL 2022. They started off their journey with a big blow as their main pacer Deepak Chahar, was ruled out of the entire tournament.

To make things worse, their decision to hand over the captaincy of the yellow army to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja backfired and MS Dhoni returned as the skipper halfway during the tournament.

CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs for only the second time in the history of the IPL. They had previously missed out on a playoff spot in 2020.

While most of the things were unfavorable for them in this edition of the world’s richest franchise cricket league, CSK had a few positives to look forward to, especially with their pace department.

Chahar's injury forced them to include uncapped Indian pacer, Mukesh Choudhary in the team. Despite having a rough start, the left-arm pacer improved his game drastically and finished the season with 16 wickets to his name in 13 matches.

Former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra said that he believes Choudhary will end up playing for India. He also hailed the way captain Dhoni used him.

"If anyone bowls the best with the new ball, I feel it is Mukesh Choudhary. We saw him bowling at the death also where he used the natural angle of taking it across, which all left-armers do. Captain Dhoni slowly-slowly got him to bowl at the death as well," Chopra said on his Youtube channel.

"This is captain Dhoni's plan - he first gets you to bowl more with the new ball and then prepares you slowly, then finishes you in the 14th or 15th over and then gives you the 19th or 20th over as well. He stood out in every challenge," he added.
