The Mumbai Indians (MI) had a disheartening run in IPL 2022, ending their campaign at the bottom of the table, suffering 10 losses in the season.
The Rohit Sharma-led franchise was the first to get eliminated from the playoffs race. Despite having their worst-ever IPL season, they had some positives too, one of them being the emergence of young sensation Dewald Brevis.
MI had picked Brevis in the IPL 2022 mega auction in February for his consistency with the bat for South Africa in the U19 World Cup this year.
Pulling off a number of explosive performances for the 5-time champions franchise, Brevis dazzled the fans and former cricketers alike with the aggressive approach he exhibited.
Brevis is expected to play a key role for the franchise in the coming seasons. While speaking to the YouTube channel Cricket Fanatics, Brevis opened up on his maiden season with MI.
“It was very special to meet Rohit, Ishan, and the whole team when I finished quarantine. Of course, my debut was a special memory, playing in front of so many people. The louder it gets, the higher the pressure gets and I love that. The pressure to perform for MI is good because it motivates you to get another trophy for the team,” Brevis said in the interview, as quoted by MI on their official website.
Brevis also had the opportunity to share the dressing room with legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar, who was the mentor for the franchise this season. The youngster recalled his first meeting with the ‘Master Blaster’.
“I was laying on the floor of the gym and suddenly Sachin sir appeared at the door. I didn’t know what to do and the first time I shook his hand, it was insane. I have idolised him and the small technical details he taught me were special. It was great to learn from legends like him and coach Mahela,” said Brevis.
