The Indian Premier League’s (IPL) new franchise, Gujarat Titans (GT), proved all their doubters wrong by winning their maiden IPL 2022 trophy in their debut season on May 29.
After the IPL 2022 mega auction, not many believed that Gujarat Titans (GT) would perform well, and considered the new entrants as underdogs, but the Hardik Pandya-led franchise hit all the 9 franchisees hard to create history in the tournament.
After thrashing Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 wickets in the IPL 2022 Final on Sunday (May 29), GT became the only franchise to win an IPL trophy in their debut season.

Reacting to GT’s historic win, Australian cricketer Matthew Wade, who was part of the new team, said that winning the IPL 2022 trophy at the packed Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was like winning a World Cup.
Wade told SEN Radio, “It's a close to winning a World Cup as you can get. It was a crazy atmosphere and something I'll never forget -- 104,000 people; I didn't think I'd ever play in front of that many.”
He further explained, “(It was) a different kind of feeling to a World Cup where you've spent a few years trying to build a team to get there but this one has got all the glitz and glamour on it, and they do it differently over in India and they put on a show.”
Bought for Rs 2.40 crore by Gujarat, Wade played 10 matches where he scored 157 runs at 15.70.
