Gujarat Titans (GT) won the IPL trophy in their debut season after defeating Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2022 final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 29, Sunday.

The debutant franchise was the first franchise to make it to the IPL 2022 playoffs and final, and eventually became the champions as well.

Well, the Bengal duo of Wriddhiman Saha and Mohammad Shami played a key role in Gujarat Titans’ (GT) success. While Saha amassed 317 runs in 11 matches with the highest score of 68, Shami scalped 20 wickets in 16 matches at an economy rate of 8.8 in the IPL 2022.

Saha said after the match: “This is my 5th final and the 2nd final I have won. Someone said our team was not good after the auctions, but we proved them wrong. The first ball he bowled was outstanding, everyone contributed and it was a team performance.”

Meanwhile, Shami stated: “We needed to start the tournament well, set up a template for the team. The idea was only to start well for the team and concentrate on the line and length. We (himself and Saha) have known each other well for the last 20 years and have a good understanding as well.”

Notably, Gujarat Titans became only the second team in IPL history to win the title in its debut season after RR, who won it in IPL 2008. It was Hardik Pandya’s fifth IPL title, and first as the captain.
