Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary India batter, praised R Ashwin after Rajasthan Royals qualified for IPL 2022 playoffs. After an amazing win over defending IPL champions Chennai Super Kings on Friday, the Sanju Samson-led RR side advanced to the playoff stage.

Since Ashwin joined the Sanju Samson-led RR team in IPL 2022, he has become a force to be reckoned with. In the 15th season of the cash-rich tournament, Ashwin has improved his stock by leading the Samson-led side's bowling attack and playing key cameos with the willow.

Following his outstanding performance in IPL 2021, the veteran all-rounder was recalled to Team India for the T20 World Cup.

With Ashwin ready to have another successful season in the Indian Premier League, batting icon Gavaskar believes the RR superstar has the ability to make India's lineup unstoppable at the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

“I think he wanted to show he can bat anywhere. He started his career as an opening batter, not at the first-class level maybe, but at the club level. Now he has become one of the greatest spinners in the game," Gavaskar told Star Sports.

In IPL 2022, Ashwin has accumulated 183 runs from 14 matches as a floater and also scored his first IPL half-century. In the league phase of the IPL 2022, the former CSK and Punjab Kings superstar has taken 11 wickets for Samson and Co.

"And he also knows that he is a batter who has got five Test hundreds. So he can bat, he knows that. He has now shown that he can do it in the ultra-short format and be in the Indian team for the World Cup in Australia. That is his aim and that is why he is so excited about his own batting performance. He's showing with the ball and with the bat that ‘Hello! Pick me’," Gavaskar added.
