Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) thanked Mumbai Indians’ (MI) batter Tim David after his sensational knock against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 69th match of IPL 2022 helped MI beat DC, which in turn proved beneficial for RCB.

Tim David’s fiery innings of 34 (11 balls) came at a crucial moment and took the match away from DC, eventually beating them and knocking them out of the race, and paving way for RCB to finish in the top four.

It so happened that in order for RCB to qualify for the playoffs, MI had to defeat DC in the last night’s game. As a result, the RCB team including captain Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli, and all of their fans showered support for the 5-time champion Mumbai Indians on social media.

Batting first, DC posted a decent total of 159 runs on the board as Powell and Pant went on to score 43 and 39 respectively. Chasing 160, MI had lost Rohit Sharma (2) early on. Although Ishan Kishan (48) and Dewald Brevis (37) fought back, MI found themselves in a tough situation after their dismissals.

That is when Tim David, the Singaporean-Australian batter came in. He would have gone for a golden duck had DC wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant considered taking the review, as David had nicked the very first ball he faced, bowled by Shardul Thakur.

However, he made good use of the lifeline he got and went on to score a brilliant 34, consisting of four maximums and two boundaries that took the match away from Delhi.

RCB posted a special thank you for Tim David, who played for RCB in IPL 2021 but was not retained by them. They also uploaded footage of RCB members watching the game eagerly and bursting into celebrations as soon as MI reached their target.
