The Gujarat Titans' (GT) wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade was reprimanded for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the 67th match of the ongoing IPL 2022 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai, on Thursday (May 19).
GT's Wade was reprimanded by the match referee for his outburst after being adjudged LBW, which was a controversial call by the third-umpire during GT’s 8-wicket loss to RCB on Thursday.
After being given out LBW, Wade immediately went for DRS off Glenn Maxwell’s delivery. Well, the replays suggested there might have been a deflection when the ball passed the batter’s bat. However, the ultra edge did not detect it and the TV umpire stayed with the on-field umpire's call.
After that, Wade walked off shaking his head in frustration and even burst out of his anger in the dressing room by angrily throwing his bat and helmet around. The Australian star admitted to the offence, and it was a Level 1 offence, under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct.
The IPL Media Advisory stated: “Matthew Wade from Gujarat Titans has been reprimanded for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League's (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team's match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.”
The statement added, “Mr Wade admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding.”
