Former Australia cricketer Matthew Hayden expressed his fondness for SRH batter Rahul Tripathi, who has been doing excellently well in the IPL 2022. He said that Tripathi has the potential to be successful at the international level.

Hayden went on to say that he was impressed with Tripathi’s striking abilities and the way he handled short-pitched bowling.

Rahul Tripathi played a brilliant knock of 76 off 44 balls at a strike rate of 172.73 during the 65th match of the IPL 2022 between the Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a do-or-die match.

His innings was decorated with 9 fours and 3 maximums, and came at a crucial time, helping SRH put on 193/6 and ultimately helping them clinch the match by 3 runs and keep their hopes alive in the tournament.

IPL 2022: He's a dangerous player and should be in mix- Shastri backs Rahul Tripathi to make India debut soon

In an interview with Star Sports, Matthew Hayden said, “I just love his ability to upfront so hard. I think that’s what has been really missing inside the SRH batting line-up. That powerplay is so significant. especially when the wickets are getting slower, so the first 6 overs, you have to make use of it. It was a really good leadership decision as well to get back down the order.”

Hayden also spoke about Tripathi’s chances of playing for India in the T20 World Cup which will be played in Australia later this year.

The way Tripathi took up the responsibility was good to watch. I think he has got some real potential in the future to go all the way at the international level. He is someone that is a dangerous striker of the ball, he can hit both sides of the wicket. In particular, what impresses the most is his ability to play short-pitched bowling. I mean, getting to Australia, let’s just take the liberty to say that’s where it is, not saying he will be picked, but he has the game on bouncy wickets,” Hayden added.
