IPL 2022: SRH captain Kane Williamson highlights the match-winning moment against MI

SRH won a close encounter against MI at Wankhede stadium to keep their playoffs hopes alive.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Kane Williamson highlighted the moment where they won the enthralling yet a close encounter of the IPL 2022 against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday (May 17) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

After losing the toss, SRH batted first and went on to post 193/6, riding on Rahul Tripathi’s stunning knock of 76 runs off 44 balls on the board against the MI. Ramandeep Singh snared three wickets for MI against the SRH at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

Defending the total, SRH didn’t have a great start, as the MI openers, Rohit Sharma (48) and Ishan Kishan (43) added 95 runs before the fall of the first wicket. Well, MI were an inch closer to the victory, but it was Bhuvneshwar Kumar who bowled a remarkable 19th over to help SRH win the match.

In the 19th over, Bhuvneshwar bowled a wicket-maiden to help SRH take control again, and after the match, Williamson described the 19th over as the match-winning moment against MI.

Kane Williamson said during the post-match presentation: “Death bowling has been a strength of ours and Bhuvi is one of the top death bowlers of the tournament. His contribution today and to bowl, a maiden is an amazing contribution and match-winning moment really.”

Praising the pace sensation Umran Malik, who dismissed Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, and Daniel Sams in their last match, the SRH captain said: “He (Malik) always bowls quick, which is obviously strength and weapon for our side. Got an amazing skill set which if he can channel, he can turn a match as we saw.”

Williamson also lauded Player of the Match Rahul Tripathi. He said: “He’s (Tripathi) a seriously special player, he comes out and takes the momentum away. Have seen a number of times in this competition.”

The SRH captain also opened up about his decision to drop himself down the batting order for the young batter Priyam Garg, who played his first match this season and impressed all with a 42-off 26 knock.

He signed off by saying, “Priyam is a seriously talented cricketer, great that he could get the opportunity today, he’s one of those players we’re going to see a lot more of, got a really good head on his shoulders, a lot of potential but a lot of skill as well.”
