Royal Challengers Bangalore is yet to win a trophy in the Indian Premier League after fourteen years. In 2016, they came within a whisker of earning the elusive IPL trophy when they played Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. Shane Watson, who was with RCB at the time, still has nightmares about that final.

RCB were certainly the favorite to win the title, especially with Virat Kohli in such good form at the time. The then-RCB captain had scored 973 runs with 4 centuries to his name and was in good shape to lead his team to its first IPL title.

Shane Watson's performance in the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was disastrous, as he gave 61 runs in four overs, with the final over of the innings going for 24 runs. Cutting hammered Watson for 23 runs – three sixes and a four – in five balls in the final over.

Watson's terrible over was arguably what put the game in SRH's hands. Watson revealed on the Delhi Capitals podcast that he was devastated by the way the innings ended.

“The 2016 final which I played with RCB was something I was just shattered about. Because I know how much it meant to RCB to win that final. It was at home at Chinnaswamy. RCB had played so well all year, at the backend of that tournament in particular,” the Aussie said on that match.

It was, without a doubt, RCB's best chance to win the IPL. Watson is still haunted by those memories.

“Virat in particular was on fire. It was his chance, one of the greatest players, to win that elusive IPL title as captain. And bowling that one over just shattered me. It just got it wrong and I felt like the end of time,” added the ex-Australian all-rounder.

While batting first, SRH scored 208 runs. In response, RCB could only muster 200 runs, losing the match by eight runs.
