Delhi Capitals (DC) registered a comprehensive 17-run victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 64 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai on Monday (May 16).
Opting to bat first, DC posted 159/7 in their 20 overs on the back of all-rounder Mitchell Marsh’s 48-ball 63, including 4 fours and 3 sixes. Sarfaraz Khan also made a notable contribution of 32 runs in 16 balls.
Liam Livingstone was the stand-out bowler for PBKS, claiming three wickets by conceding 27 runs in his four overs. Arshdeep Singh (3-37) also picked three scalps but he was a tad expensive with the ball.
With the ball, DC restricted PBKS to 142/9 in 20 overs. Shardul Thakur starred with the ball for DC, returning with the figures of 4 for 36 in his four overs. The spin duo of Akshar Patel (2-14) and Kuldeep Yadav (2-14) also bowled exceptionally well, sharing four scalps between them.
It was a disappointing batting effort from PBKS as most batters fell for a single-digit score. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma was the top scorer with 34-ball 44.
With this victory, Delhi Capitals moved to the fourth spot on the points table and kept their playoffs hopes alive.
Cricket fraternity lauded Shardul Thakur and other DC bowlers for their impressive performance while defending a modest total.
