IPL 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as Andre Russell’s all-round brilliance powers KKR to huge win over SRH

KKR jumped to the sixth spot on the points table and kept their playoffs hopes alive.

Andre Russell starred in KKR's victory | BCCI/IPLKolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered a resounding 54-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 61 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at MCA Stadium, Pune on Saturday (May 14).

Opting to bat first, KKR posted 177/6 in their 20 overs with vital contributions from Andre Russell (49* off 28 balls) and Sam Billings (34 off 29 balls).

Umran Malik starred with the ball for SRH, claiming three wickets by conceding 33 runs in his four overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1-27) and Marco Jansen (1-30) also bowled well and claimed one scalp each.

With the ball, KKR restricted SRH to 123/8 in 20 overs. All the Kolkata bowlers were among the wickets but it was Andre Russell who stole the show, picking three wickets by giving away just 22 runs in his four overs. While Tim Southee (2-23) took two scalps, Umesh Yadav (1-19), Varun Chakaravarthy (1-25), and Sunil Narine (1-34) claimed wicket apiece.

It was a listless batting performance from SRH as most of them got out for a single-digit score. Abhishek Sharma was the top scorer with 28-ball 43.

With this thumping victory, Knight Riders jumped to the sixth spot on the points table and kept their playoffs hopes alive.
