IPL 2022: CSK CEO confirms Ambati Rayudu is not retiring; Twitterati left puzzled

Rayudu deleted his retirement tweet minutes after posting it.

Ambati Rayudu | BCCI/IPLVeteran CSK batter Ambati Rayudu on Saturday (May 14) hogged the headlines as he announced his retirement from the IPL after the ongoing season through a tweet before deleting the post.

Taking to Twitter, Rayudu wrote: “I am happy to announce that this will be my last ipl. I have had a wonderful time playing it and being a part of 2 great teams for 13 years. Would love to sincerely thank Mumbai Indians and Csk for the wonderful journey.”

However, he deleted the post minutes later and then CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan confirmed that Rayudu isn’t retiring, saying he will be with the franchise next year.

“No no he's not retiring. Maybe he wasn't happy with his performances and might have put it out. Just a psychological thing, I reckon. He'll be with us,” CSK CEO quoted as saying by News9 journalist Subhayan Chakraborty.

Cricket fans on Twitter roasted Ambati Rayudu for deleting his tweet, which suggested that he has taken another retirement u-turn.

Notably, Rayudu had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in July 2019 after not being picked for the ODI World Cup in England but he later made himself available to play for Hyderabad in domestic cricket.

Here are the reactions of fans:

In 12 games for CSK this season, Rayudu has scored 271 runs from 10 innings at a strike rate of 124.31.

Overall, he has played 187 IPL matches, amassing 4187 runs at 29.08 with a strike rate of 127.26, including one hundred and 22 half-centuries.
